During the conference, Wang Yuqing pointed out that the founding of the union demonstrated the positive side of the society. He said that we should make joint efforts and contribute to NSUH, which would promote environmental protection in China.

Vice chairwoman and president of the Expert Consultative Committee Wang Jirong stated in her speech that NSUH was a united group with the same goal, responsibility, development and duty and it would be influential.

Jiang Minglin pointed out that according to the 2013 Report on the State of the Environment in China, among the 74 cities that add the air quality index that measures PM2.5 level, only three reach the standard. Faced with the severe environmental circumstances, especially the polluted air, it is essential and urgent to establish a union like NSUH. He added that NSUH responded to government¡¯s call to declare war against pollution. From now on, we should make the sky clear again and air fresh again through practical actions.

NSUH is also guided and supported by government officials and experts. Officials and experts from General Affairs Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science, Technology and Standard of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Transportation Research Center of the Ministry of Transport, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences also attended the founding conference.

At the conference, Li Junyang expressed clearly that NSUH is a specialized platform focused on haze prevention and control. By integrating various sectors of the society, NSUH provides favorable conditions to the establishment of sub unions focused on haze control and relevant innovative technologies. Each union can form an independent innovative system involving industry-university-research cooperation, with enterprises and research institutions as the main participants and market as the orientation. NSUH not only promotes the appliance of scientific and technological achievements, but also helps and supports sub unions to get the authentication of China Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance guided by the Ministry of Science and Technology. MOST has stated that the Alliance should play an essential role in undertaking national scientific tasks during the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan.
