Secretary General Hosted a Dinner for New Member of IEEPA Consultative Council, House Chairman of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa

On July 6th 2013, Secretary General Jon Li hosted a dinner party for Mr. Cedric Frolick, who held the post of House Chairman of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, and was newly appointed as Senior Councilor of IEEPA Consultative Committee. Both parties shared their opinions about environmental issues and challenges faced by emerging economies, especially for BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

Mr. Jon Li pointed out that China¡¯s economic development remained uneven in eastern, central and western regions currently. The economic development mode at the expense of environment has not been sustainable any longer, while new development model with the focus on energy conservation and environment protection would definitely boom, which makes more international cooperation necessary.

Mr. Cedric Frolick appreciated Mr. Jon Li¡¯s opinion. He insisted that South Africa was facing similar issues as China, and South African government was making great efforts to develop green industries and new energy. Besides, Mr. Frolick said that he was so delighted to become a member of IEEPA Consultative Committee, and hoped to further enhance the cooperation between IEEPA and South African government, organizations and companies with a view to achieve green and clean energy development

Mr. Jon Li agreed upon this, and subsequently issued corresponding certificate to Mr. Cedric Frolick, which marks close ties has been built between the two parties in terms of pushing forward WEC and global low carbon development.
