IEEPA Secretary General met with Maldives Minister of Housing and Environment and Maldives Ambassador in China

On June 19, 2011, secretary-general Jon Li, together with He Jiankun, vice director of China National Climate Change Experts Committee and vice director of School Council of Tsinghua University, and Edward Clarence-Smith, representative of UNIDO in China and Northeast Asia, met with Mohamed Aslam, Maldives Housing and Environment Minister, and Ahmed Latheef, Maldives Ambassador in China in Sheraton Qingdao Chengyang Hotel, Qingdao.

Firstly, Jon Li expressed welcome for there second attendance as the presidium members of the conference, and said that IEEPA also attached great importance to the cooperation with Maldives Ministry of Housing and Environment in the fields of resource, environment and development, and further discussed future possibility of joint research and project cooperation.

Next, Professor He Jiankun inquired them about MaldivesĄŻ operation and related works in response to climate change.

At the same time, Mr. Clarence made exchange with them on the preparatory work of WEC and their respective work.

To respond to this, Minister Mohamed Aslam introduced the Maldives' work in handling climate change in recent years as well as efforts in economic and ecological environment development, and said he was delighted to attend the WEC once again, and expressed positive support for the conference.

In the end, both parties expressed their willingness to continue to keep in touch, as well as make exchange and cooperation in the future.
