On November 27, 2010, 2010 China Ecological Human Settlement International (Hainan) Forum drew its curtain in Nanli Lake of Hainan province, China. Experts and scholars at home and abroad gathered and discussed the development mode of current world human settlement, as well as development trend of new building materials and new type of housing, offering valuable advice on the establishment of demonstration areas of new style housings and building materials and demonstration county of ecological human settlement in Hainan province, a famous international tour island.

Cyrille Jegu, IEEPA Product/Service Life Cycle and Supply Chain Project Director and Sustainable Development Expert delivered a speech entitled ˇ°Build for Humanity, Inspired by Nature.ˇ± According to Mr. Jegu, We have a DESIGN problem, not a management problem! We have been designing under the assumption that what is good for us, is good for the world. We need to change the way we design using the contrary assumption that what is good for the world, is good for us.

Simultaneously, Mr. Jegu gave a vivid description of green building by way of the Pareto Principle, and compared the green buildings in China with that in UK, and emphasized that LEED certification was not fully adapted to the China context despite it was more popular and had more international recognition. Therefore, he hoped China shall establish green building standard well suited to local conditions, and further reduced power consumption and environmental damage to buildings.

This forum was co-organized by the Construction Department of Hainan Province and the Ecological Human Settlement Committee of China Construction Industry Association, and over 30 experts and scholars including Song Chunhua, former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Construction PRC, Chairman of Architectural Society of China, Xue Kongkuan, Chief of the Ecological Human Settlement Committee of China Construction Industry Association, Tong Yuezhong, Vice Chairman of China Association of Real Estate, attended the forum and discussed on the topic "Low Carbon Environmental Protection Housing and Building", with a view to developing low carbon life conditions of ecological human settlement under the context of gigantic energy consumption, global warming and climate change, to taking the lead in ecological human settlement with Hainan International Tour Island as demonstration area of new type housing and building material.
